Discover the Best Cafes in Shibuya district
This is the third installment in our series on the best cafés in Tokyo.
Why continue exploring cafés? Because they play a significant role in shaping lifestyles. Cafés are more than just “third spaces” — they’re extensions of both work and personal life, where people study, meet friends, or work on laptops or notebooks.
A café also mirrors the local culture and mindset.
Today, I return to the Shibuya district, exploring the trendiest spots favored by Japan’s creative minds. Shibuya now extends beyond the station area to include Daikanyama and Harajuku, both renowned fashion hubs.
Working in this area provides valuable insights into Japan’s evolving cultural landscape.
KOPIKALYAN
Located near Harajuku Station, Kopikalyan offers a chance to experience Indonesian-style coffee. Indonesia, well-known for its high-quality coffee beans, is also a leader in addressing sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Do you know that many Japanese are fascinated by Indonesia’s variety of coffee beans ?
At Kopikalyan, they offer a typical Indonesian style sweetened coffee, and it refreshes you in the hot Japanese summer…….
You can immerse yourself in Indonesia’s sustainable coffee culture and enjoy unique, exotic coffee recipes.

Rand Cattelya cafe
Tucked away behind Harajuku’s trendy streets, this sleek, modern minimalist café doubles as a showcase for Japan’s latest fashion and beauty products.
The cafe’s spacious, tranquil interior makes it an ideal spot for getting work done.
They have started to serve tartine (which I hadn’t tried yet……!), and brioche burgers.
You can concentrate on your work in this clean and simple space.
However, it’s only open a few days a week, so be sure to check their Instagram for updated hours.

BRO SANDWICH
Located in the heart of Daikanyama, Tokyo’s trendy new hotspot, this café features a vibrant, 70s vintage American design and serves alcohol from lunchtime.
It’s a stylish sandwich shop that embodies Japan’s unique take on third-place branding.
The generously sized grilled sandwiches are a highlight, with the garlic shrimp being the most popular. A favorite among Gen Z, it’s also known for its photogenic appeal.

They serve a variety of flavorful coffees sourced from Latin America, with a focus on sustainability through their own coffee farm in Guatemala.
This chain has locations in popular areas like Shibuya, Daikanyama, Gakugei Daigaku, Ogikubo, Yoga, and Kamakura.
Their delicate dirty chai is a personal favorite of mine.

Your marvelous cafe journey in Tokyo
I hope you’re enjoying this series!
Visiting cafés daily can get expensive, which makes café time feel special—so it’s worth choosing the right moment and place.
Find a cafe that best matches your style and preferences.
A key tip: always check the opening hours, and for foreign visitors, note that access can sometimes be tricky. I recommend going early on weekday mornings when it’s usually less crowded.
Enjoy your café adventures in Tokyo!
